Career Profile: Talent Scout

Written by admin on Mar 28th, 2009 | Filed under: People-centred career

Even creative talents and artistes need someone to promote their skills and talents.

Talent Scouts are representatives for talents. These talents include creatives and artistes such as writers, models, actors, athletes and other talent-based careers.

Talent Scouts seek out potential clients and then intensively promote them to broadcasting companies, advertising firms and other relevant channels of employment.

Where do talent scouts work in? Most of them work in talent agencies. Sometimes, agents do not just promote individuals. Instead, they promote a team package. For example, they must deploy a script writer, actor and director as a package to prospective production studios.

As talent scouting is a very niche profession, there are not much places for formal training. Typically, an effective way of entering this trade is through internship.

Nevertheless, courses that are of relevance to this profession includes business, accounting and mathematics. Skill-wise, the ability to negotiate is very important. Of course an eye for talent is needed. Personality wise, you will also need outgoing and love interacting with potential clients.

Stanford Investors May Unlock Bank Accounts

Written by Brandon on Mar 28th, 2009 | Filed under: Miscellaneous Info

Stanford Group Co. investors will soon submit a request to unfreeze around 3,000 bank accounts in a fraud suit against R. Allen Stanford.

Stanford filed papers last night that try to prove that a portion of the savings accounts are not involved in any fraud. This would allow some of Stanford’s customers to begin taking back their money.

If the portion of bank account holders do get their money back they must promise not to sue Stanford after the fact. I’d suggest to them that they start looking for CD rates from FDIC insured banks.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission sued Stanford for massive fraud and froze all of his operations. It seems like more and more crooked bankers are coming out these days.

Cover Letters are important

Written by admin on Mar 26th, 2009 | Filed under: Tips and advices

What is a cover letter? Basically, it is the front introductory cover page that should accompany the curriculum vitae or resume.

Many people seek job interviews without having a cover letter attached to the curriculum vitae. This is not a good practice. Without a good cover letter, the prospective employers will have less informed information about you. If they have too little information about you,  they will be less decisive in hiring or even calling you up for a face-to-face interview! A cover letter can be viewed as a thought-synthesizer. It allows the prospective employer to synthesis an impression about you. Without a mental image of you, you will merely be viewed as another number or statistic. This can reduce the chances of forming a favourable impression.

So why ain’t some job-seekers writing one? One reason is that writing a cover letter can be a pain in the neck. This is especially so for persons who are not ‘writing-savvy’.

Fret not. There are resources online that can help one in writing one with greater ease and targeted precision.

One such resource is a website call Cover Letters That Kill. There you will find stuffs that will ease the cover writing process.

Having just a great business idea is not enough

Written by admin on Mar 24th, 2009 | Filed under: Home-based Business ideas

When starting a business, home-based or otherwise, it is not enough to have a great idea. What is more important is to transform that idea into something tangible. This something tangible must in turn convert into monetary profit!

To evaluate the potentiality of any business, we need to consider several things.

1. Do the necessary market study and research. We need to evaluate whether there is a market for the business service or product. One way to do so is through a well-planned and targetted market survey. Also, do check out possible competitors. Are you competing head-on with a well-established company?

2. Keep ourselves updated. We can do that by reading new informations. These can be obtained in offline and online materials. Online materials can come from places such as a relevant business blog or website.

3. Feasibility research and evaluation of the business. This includes looking into the entire process of running the business. Check out whether the resources and raw material supplies are available or not. What are the ways to promote the business? What are some problems and difficulties that can arise? Consider all possible scenarios.

Well, these are just the basic groundworks that need to be done. They may sound tedious. But they will save us some headaches in the future.

About exploring business ideas

Written by admin on Mar 24th, 2009 | Filed under: Tips and advices

This is not a definitive article. It is just a general writing.

When looking to venture onto any kind of business, there are a couple of fundamental issues that one need to consider.

Firstly, we need to know that in business we are dealing with human beings and their needs. If the business does not fill or address a human-related need or desire, there will not be a demand for the service or product. Thus there will be no business to talk about.

Secondly, one may need to expand on the types of ideas for business. We can look for what other people are already doing. This will help us to expand the scope and perspective of the nature of a particular business. One way is to look up and research via a business directory. In a Business Directory, we can see what are the existing types of businesses. Additionally, we can see who are the potential competitors.

Thirdly, have a defined business plan. This will clarify what needs to be done. This will also provide a better picture.

Well, these are just some of the considerations. Thanks for reading.
