A Dietician provides medical nutrition therapy to patients referred to him or her by physicians. The Dietician’s job is to assess the nutritional needs of patients, and develop a nutrition care plan for them. He may choose to research on and recommend the latest medical nutrition therapy to health professionals and food personnel. Administrative Dieticians can work in hospitals, schools, restaurants and other institutions.

How to become a Dietician? Entry career requirements into this line of career would be a Degree in Dietetics with clinical training in hospitals/ Degree in Nutrition with postgraduate diploma in Dietetics/ Degree in Science, majoring in Physiology and Biochemistry, and a 2 years Master’s in Dietetics. Becoming registered is good too. A registered Dietician often commands more credibility.

Besides working in hospitals, career opportunities for dieticians are available in the food industries, slimming centres and food-related research companies. Dietitians or dieticians often work in very comfortable environments. However, they be required to be on their feet for long hours at times.

Dieticians with the necessary experiences can become directors of food services in places such as schools or hospitals.
