A Dietician provides medical nutrition therapy to patients referred to him or her by physicians. The Dietician’s job is to assess the nutritional needs of patients, and develop a nutrition care plan for them. He may choose to research on and recommend the latest medical nutrition therapy to health professionals and food personnel.
A Dietician must have a strong interest in food nutrition and preparation, and be able to convince his audience of adopting a healthy diet.
Entry career requirements into this line of career would be a Degree in Dietetics with clinical training in hospitals/ Degree in Nutrition with postgraduate diploma in Dietetics/ Degree in Science, majoring in Physiology and Biochemistry, and a 2 years Master’s in Dietetics.
Besides working in hospitals, career opportunities for dieticians are available in the food industries, slimming centres and food-related research companies.
