Career Profile: Marine Officer

The Career Information and Profile of the Marine Officer will be described in this article. A marine officer regulates traffic and ensures safety within the port waters.

He is tasked with coordinating maritime search-and-rescue operations and enforcing port regulations and maritime security measures. Other duties will include managing piloting guidelines as well as the licensing and upgrading of pilots.

As his job scope revolves around managing and planning, he has to be able to think on his feet and be able to communicate clearly, especially in report writing.

The job requires a Certificate of Competency as a Deck Officer and a Class 1 Master Marine. One might choose to progress to become a Senior Marine Officer, Deputy Controller or Controller.
