Basically the job of the Oceanographer is to study the dynamics of the ocean. This involves using scientific research methods to understand the interaction of elements such as fresh water, sea water, atmospheric and polar ice conditions. Some branches of Oceangraphy also study the marine ecosystems and living creatures of the ocean.

This job requires long durations away from home. Oceangraphers work in offices, labs and on the field too. They often work in multidisciplinary teams with other kinds of experts.

Oceanographers are often involved in the restoration of shorelines and off shore oil rigs.

Many Oceanographers have at least Masters or PhD qualifications.

  1. I think there was once a famous French oceanographer that is often featured on the TV. I can’t remember his name.

    Anyway, Oceanographer sounds like a very interesting job.
