A Doula is a person who takes care of expecting mothers-to-be. Usually, the Doula is a woman who has given birth before.
There are 2 main variations to the Doula profession:
1. Taking care of expecting mothers before child-birth.
2. Taking care of mother and child, after childbirth.
Often a Doula’s expertise includes providing emotional as well as physical supports to the expecting woman or new mother. She is often an expert in some kind of massage and discomfort relieve. A Doula competence is often closely connected to her own personal experience of childbirth.
Where to find Doula Training? There are some places that organize Doula training courses and workshop. One of the better known ones is Dona International. Dona International offers Birth Doula Certification. There are other places that offer Doula training too such as the Somerset school of Massage Therapy.
